The official teaser trailer for the gripping survival drama The Lost Bus, starring Academy Award winner Matthew McConaughey, has been released, offering a first look at the harrowing true story of a tragic 2023 wildfire. The trailer dropped on Friday, June 6, 2025, building anticipation for the film’s theatrical release and on Apple TV+.

The Lost Bus chronicles the terrifying events of the 2023 Camp Fire, which devastated Paradise, California, becoming the deadliest and most destructive wildfire in the state’s history. The film specifically focuses on a harrowing incident where a school bus, attempting to evacuate students and staff, became trapped by the rapidly advancing blaze, forcing its occupants to fight for survival amidst unimaginable chaos.

Matthew McConaughey portrays Kevin McKay, the real-life bus driver who, with extraordinary courage and quick thinking, guided his young passengers through the inferno. The teaser highlights the intense, claustrophobic moments inside the bus, the terrifying visuals of the encroaching flames, and the desperate struggle for survival. It underscores the themes of resilience, community, and the human spirit in the face of overwhelming disaster. The film is based on Lizzie Johnson’s novel, Paradise: One Town’s Struggle to Survive an American Wildfire. The official logline reads that the plot follows “a wayward school bus driver (McConaughey) and a dedicated school teacher (America Ferrera) [who] battle to save 22 children from the terrifying inferno.”

Directed by acclaimed filmmaker Paul Greengrass The Lost Bus also stars Yul Vazquez, Ashlie Atkinson, Danny McCarthy and Spencer Watson. The film is scheduled for theatrical release and on Apple TV+ this fall.
