Details revealed from officer-involved shooting video
The officer who was physically assaulted has served with Phoenix police for about four years, authorities said. The release said he had been taken to a nearby hospital with “multiple injuries” before his release.
The Maricopa County Attorney’s Office is currently reviewing the case.
What led to the officer-involved shooting in Phoenix?
Authorities said Perone had exited his car before the officer arrived at the stopped vehicle and began “being verbally confrontational.”
Following explanation of the traffic stop, Perone didn’t listen to the officer’s request to see his driver’s license and argued with an “aggressive demeanor” for several minutes, police said.
The argument escalated into Perone hitting the officer’s head and him eventually getting ahold of the officer’s holster. In trying to get the weapon away from Perone, the officer fired a shot that struck Perone’s leg. Additional officers arrived on the scene and wrapped a tourniquet on the wound before Perone was escorted to a nearby hospital.
A ruling on the officer’s actions will not be made until the investigation is complete.
