A fatal, two-vehicle crash left two people trapped inside a crushed car and others injured on Saturday afternoon in the Sun Valley neighborhood of Los Angeles, according to officials.
The L.A. City Fire Department reported the crash at 3:33 p.m., saying there were a total of four patients when crews arrived at the crash site in the intersection of North Laurel Canyon Boulevard and Strathern Street.
One patient was found dead at the scene, and another was estimated to be in critical condition and needed to be extricated from the car and transported to a local trauma center.
Another two patients had minor injuries but refused transport, according to the fire department.
Crews did not reveal any details about the vehicles involved, but footage from the scene posted to Citizen.com showed what appeared to be a dark blue Chevy Silverado with major front-end damage and a mutilated silver sedan with deep impact damage on the passenger side and the windshield partially popped off.
Debris from the crash and a hefty law enforcement presence filled the intersection while firefighters were seen extricating one of the trapped passengers and carrying them away on a stretcher.
None of the patients were identified, and officials did not immediately confirm whether the other trapped individual was the deceased patient – but footage of the mangled aftermath showed officers setting up a white canvas over the sedan.
LAFD said motorists could expect impacted traffic in the area while fire companies and heavy rescue resources engaged in extrication and recovery efforts.
