Bills Advised to Shake Up Roster With Major Trade Before 2025 Season

Entering the 2025 NFL season, the Buffalo Bills are one of the best teams in football. After ending their season with a heartbreaking loss to the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC Championship Game last season, the Bills are looking to take the final step and get into the Super Bowl.

Throughout the course of the offseason, Buffalo made a few moves. However, the front office was not as aggressive as many expected it to be.

Joey Bosa was the biggest outside addition for the Bills. Joshua Palmer was another addition who should be solid offensively.

Both of those moves were quality additions, but are they enough to power Buffalo to a Super Bowl? Could the team be open to shaking up the roster more?

Gary Davenport of Bleacher Report has suggested the Bills consider trading one of their current players. He thinks that pass rusher A.J. Epenesa would make sense as a trade candidate for Buffalo.

“Meanwhile, while Epenesa has been decent for the Bills the past three seasons, he hasn’t been great. The second-round pick in 2020 has logged at least six sacks in each of the past three seasons, but the 26-year-old has never had seven sacks in a campaign and has topped 20 tackles just once,” Davenport wrote.

“There’s always demand for edge-rushers in the NFL—even rotational options like Epenesa. And with him unlikely to be with the team past the 2025 season, now is the time to see what they can get for him.”

Truthfully, this kind of cost-cutting move would be counterproductive to the Bills’ pursuit of a championship. If they were to trade Epenesa with a backup plan in place to improve the roster, it could make sense, but giving up quality pass-rushing depth is always dangerous.

Epenesa has played in 75 games over his five seasons with Buffalo. He has racked up 103 total tackles to go along with 21.5 sacks, five forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries, two interceptions, a defensive touchdown, and 17 defended passes.

Josh Allen will give the Bills a fighting chance. He won the NFL MVP award last season and is the kind of quarterback who can power a team to Super Bowl contention year in and year out.

Hopefully, the team made enough moves this offseason to get over the hump. Epenesa is a name to watch on the trade market, but it would be very surprising to see Buffalo move him at this point.
