Disneyland unveils new parking structure, details on ‘Coco’ and ‘Avatar’ rides

Disneyland Resort announced several major updates Thursday about its future, including plans for a new parking structure and details on the upcoming “Avatar” and “Coco” attractions coming to Disney California Adventure Park.

A 6,000-space parking structure will be built east of Harbor Boulevard, featuring a pedestrian bridge and a redesigned esplanade arrival experience. Construction is set to begin in fall 2026.

The new area will also include designated shuttle and rideshare zones, security screening, and dedicated traffic access from Disney Way — improvements aimed at easing congestion and enhancing guest flow throughout the resort.

The parking and transportation hub follows years of planning and comes on the heels of the DisneylandForward project’s approval last May.

“These enhanced parking, transit, and arrival offerings are the first step in our next phase of construction, creating the infrastructure necessary to prepare for future growth and to welcome more guests as new experiences are added,” Disneyland officials said in a news release.

Disneyland also shared new details about the first-ever “Coco”-themed attraction, first announced at last year’s D23 Expo in Anaheim. The new ride will be located near Pixar Pier and Paradise Gardens and will be built largely in areas that are currently backstage. Construction is expected to begin this fall.

Disney said Imagineers working on the “Coco” attraction are drawing inspiration from iconic attractions such as Haunted Mansion and Pirates of the Caribbean.

“We’re bringing our skeletal cast of characters to life in a big way through the latest Audio-Animatronics technology,” said Disney Experiences Chairman Josh D’Amaro at last year’s D23 Expo. “These figures will appear in ways you’ll have to see to believe.”

Disneyland also revealed the future location of the Avatar-themed land, which will be built in the current Hollywood Backlot area of Disney California Adventure. To make way for the new land, Monsters, Inc. Mike & Sulley to the Rescue! will permanently close in early 2026.

Disneyland said more details about the resort’s planned expansions will be shared at a later date.
