HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) — The end of the week will bring the chance for rain and storms for the Tennessee Valley. A cold front passage, along with a complex of storms, will allow some of those storms to be strong to severe.

The Storm Prediction Center has all of the Tennessee Valley under a *SLIGHT RISK* (2 of 5) for severe thunderstorms Friday afternoon and evening. Along with Friday, the SPC has already highlighted the potential for the development of strong to severe storms on Saturday.

On Thursday, the SPC will release the categorized severe weather outlook for Saturday.

By midday Friday showers will begin to develop across the area with downpours possible. During the peak daytime heating hours of the afternoon and evening, storms will develop. Some of those storms will be strong to severe, and the coverage of severe weather will be isolated.

Rain activity will continue on Saturday with pockets of moderate to heavy rain likely. Strong storms will be possible during the afternoon and evening hours. Stick with the Weather Authority in the upcoming days for the latest information on this event.

Storms that can develop will be capable of producing damaging winds over 50 mph, heavy rain, small hail, and frequent lightning. Depending on where the front sets up, we will need to monitor the threat of flooding along with the rise of small creeks, rivers, and streams. The flooding threat would increase for the area on Saturday and Sunday.

With the threat of storms possible this upcoming weekend, it’s important to have multiple ways to receive weather alerts. Downloading the Live Alert 19 App is a great way to your location and then have the alerts come right to your phone.

Stick with The Weather Authority for the latest information on this week’s storm threat.
