The Final of the College Softball World Series has arrived, and Game 2 is on Thursday after Texas came from behind to beat Texas Tech 2-1 on Wednesday night.
Reese Atwood and No. 6 seed Texas will take on Mihyia Davis and No. 12 seed Texas Tech in the hopes that no Game 3 will be needed.
Texas pitcher Teagan Kavan picked up the win, throwing seven scoreless innings with three hits and three strikeouts. The only run that Texas Tech scored was unearned on a single to center from Mihyia Davis in the second inning.
Wednesday night’s game was thrilling. The Austin Regional MVP, Reese Atwood, was the deciding factor in this game for Texas. In the bottom of the sixth inning, with Texas down 1-0, she singled to left field, scoring Kayden Henry and Mia Scott to win the first game of the series.
What made the go-ahead hit so interesting is that Texas Tech was in the midst of intentionally walking Atwood, but a 3-0 count was close enough to the plate where she was able to rip a two-run single into left field.
It marked Atwood’s first hit at the 2025 WCWS, and now Texas moves one win away from its first national title in program history.
In this all-Texas final, if necessary, Game 3 will take place on Friday.
