Summary

  • Acclaimed director Luca Guadagnino is reportedly in discussions to direct Artificial
  • Slated to be a comedic drama for Amazon MGM Studios set in the world of artificial intelligence
  • The film is said to be in early talks with Andrew Garfield, Monica Barbaro and Yura Borisov to star

Luca Guadagnino, the acclaimed director behind Challengers and Call Me By Your Name, is reportedly in talks to direct Artificial, a comedic drama set in the world of artificial intelligence for Amazon MGM Studios.

According to Deadline, the film is rumored to revolve around the tumultuous period at OpenAI in 2023, specifically the widely publicized incident where CEO Sam Altman was briefly fired and then swiftly reinstated. While plot details are being kept under wraps, it’s described as a comedic drama, suggesting a blend of humor and insight into the high-stakes world of AI development.

Andrew Garfield, Monica Barbaro and Yura Borisov are reportedly in early talks to star in the film. This would mark another collaboration between Guadagnino and Amazon MGM, following Challengers and the upcoming After the Hunt, which also stars Garfield.

The screenplay for Artificial is written by Simon Rich, who will also produce alongside David Heyman and Jeffrey Clifford from Heyday Films, with Jennifer Fox also in talks to produce. The project comes after Guadagnino’s previously planned DC Studios film Sgt. Rock was delayed, allowing him to quickly pivot to Artificial, which is reportedly aiming to begin filming this year.
