Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Entertainment’s Animal Friends is heading to May 1, 2026 next year. The movie, which the Burbank, CA lot inherited from Sony, was most recently dated on Oct. 10, 2025.
The live-action toon hybrid is from filmmaker Peter Atencio, off a script by Kevin Burrows, Matt Mider
Producers are Legendary, Maximum Effort and Prime Focus Studios. Cast includes Ryan Reynolds, Jason Momoa, Aubrey Plaza, Addison Rae, Dan Levy, Lil Rel Howery, and Ellie Bamber.
You’ll remember that Disney recently moved Avengers: Doomsday from the first weekend of May next year to Dec. 18, 2026.
The first weekend of summer next year now has this hybrid road adventure movie and 20th Century Studios’ The Devil Wears Prada 2. So when does summer start next year? When do the turnstiles spin like crazy? Ala this year with Lilo & Stitch over Memorial Day weekend, which saw a record holiday start of $182.6M, it’s Disney/Lucasfilm’s Mandalorian & Grogu which will fire up the summer box office season next year on May 22.
Left on Oct. 10 is Disney’s Tron: Ares, Paramount/Miramax’s Roofman starring Channing Tatum, Roadside Attractions/LD Entertainment and Lionsgate’s Kiss of the Spider Woman, and Sony’s Soul on Fire, so a lighter weekend with one less wide release.
Animal Friends was previously dated on Aug. 15 under Sony. When it moved to Warners, the release date changed to Oct. 10.
