MADISON COUNTY, Ala. (WHNT) — A Muscle Shoals man will spend 20 years in prison, Attorney General Steve Marshall announced Tuesday.

Gregory Kirk previously worked as a pool contractor in Madison County. He was accused of stealing monies paid to him by customers, forging a contractor’s license issued by the General Contractor’s Board, using a forged building permit to defraud a customer, and fraudulently using a customer’s credit card. He’s accused of stealing over $600,000.

The indictment charged Kirk with 14 counts of first-degree theft of property, one count each of second-degree theft of property, Second-degree criminal possession of a forged instrument, second-degree forgery, and fraudulent use of a debit or credit card.

On June 3, Attorney General Steve Marshall’s office announced that, pursuant to a plea agreement, Kirk is sentenced to a total of 20 years in prison.

“Several consumers entrusted Kirk with large sums of money, hoping to build their dreampools. Instead, they were met with heartbreak. He betrayed their trust, deceived them, and stoletheir hard-earned savings. Hopefully, those victims can find solace in the knowledge that he isfinally being held accountable,” Attorney General Marshall said. “This conviction sends a clearmessage: those who exploit hardworking families and betray their trust will face justice. Ouroffice remains committed to standing up for consumers and protecting them from fraud anddeception.”

In the plea agreement with the State, Kirk agreed to accept sentences of 20 years’ imprisonmentfor each of the first-degree theft charges, 5 year’s imprisonment for the second-degree theft ofproperty, possession of a forged instrument, and forgery charges, and 5 year’s imprisonment forthe fraudulent use of a credit card charge. All sentences are to be served concurrently.

He first first arrested in 2023 for operating with a false license and scamming dozens of clients. According to court records, Pristine Fiberglass Pools LLC filed for bankruptcy on November 10. Prior to operating as pristine *Fiberglass* Pools, records show Kirk filed for bankruptcy in 2022 while operating as Pristine Pools LLC. That filing also left several clients with unfinished work.

News 19 previously spoke to some of Kirk’s victims who claim he would take their deposits up front, then agreed to install a pool but never returned to finish the job.

Jerry and Wendy Scarbrough said he took their money, dug a hole in the ground and never returned to finish the job. Since our story aired, unraveling this scheme a month ago, dozens more of his alleged victims have come forward.

Kirk was also under investigation in Limestone, Morgan and Lauderdale counties.

He was then indicted on charges in Madison County in May 2024.
