The New York Yankees are going to be without their ninth inning man for the foreseeable future.

Right handed-pitcher Luke Weaver, who has a 1.05 ERA this season, is expected to be placed on the injured list, per ESPN’s Jeff Passan.

New York Yankees closer Luke Weaver is expected be placed on the injured list after injuring his hamstring warming up Sunday night, sources tell ESPN. Weaver underwent an MRI and could miss four to six weeks, though the official timetable will be determined Tuesday.

Weaver injured his hamstring while warming up to enter Sunday night’s game against the Los Angeles Dodgers. He underwent an MRI and could now miss four to six weeks, per Passan. An official timetable for his return will be determined Tuesday.

Weaver has been one of the best pitchers in baseball this season as he’s made 24 appearances in relief, allowing just three earned runs with 24 strikeouts across 25.2 innings pitched.

He opened the season as a high-leverage reliever for New York after the team’s offseason acquisition of All-Star closer Devin Williams. However, after Williams’ early season struggles, Weaver was promoted to closer.

Overall on the season, Weaver has eight saves and six holds. He didn’t allow his first run of the season until his 14th appearance. He’s blown just one save opportunity.

Now, though, the Yankees will have to make do without Weaver, as he could be sidelined until after the All-Star break.

That could bring Williams — who has a 6.23 ERA this season but has been better as of late — back into the team’s ninth inning role.

The Yankees enter Tuesday’s series opener against the Cleveland Guardians at 36-22, 5.5 games up on the Toronto Blue Jays for first place in the American League East.

Their bullpen has been in the middle of the pack among MLB teams this season, sporting a combined 3.70 ERA, which is 13th in MLB.

The Yankees will need Williams to get back to his All-Star form now more than ever as they look to maintain their lead in the AL East. Over his last six appearances, he has a 3.18 ERA — now the team will hope he can maintain that in the ninth inning.
