Los Angeles | $2.9 million

A 1924 Spanish-style house, on 0.2 acres

This three-bedroom, three-bathroom house has most recently been owned by the French artist Claire Tabouret, whose stained-glass windows will next year be installed in Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris. In this home, Ms. Tabouret painted scenes inspired by an early-20th century tarot card deck across the living room ceiling, along with updating the kitchen and bathrooms.

The house is in the heart of Los Feliz, a few minutes’ drive from Griffith Park and within walking distance of a bookstore, a 1934 movie theater and a mix of bars and restaurants. Thai Town and East Hollywood are both within a five-minute drive, and downtown Los Angeles takes 15 minutes.

Size: 2,762 square feet

Price per square foot: $1,050

Indoors: Stairs lead from the street to the home’s front courtyard, where doors open to a foyer, and the living and dining rooms.

In the living room, an original fireplace has a detailed surround hand-painted by Ms. Tabouret. Her tarot-inspired ceiling mural is bisected by wood beams, creating nineteen separate panels. Two tall arched windows face the courtyard and three arched doorways separate the living room from the dining room.

The dining room and the foyer both have access to the kitchen, which has Spanish-style tiled floors and a farmhouse-style sink beneath a garden window. On the other side of the foyer is a family room with blue walls and more arched windows. A bedroom is off the family room, along with a bathroom.

The other two bedrooms, including the primary suite, are on the second floor, reached by stairs from the living room. At the top is a catwalk overlooking the living room. Two bedrooms were combined to create one large primary suite, with custom-built cabinets and two brass chandeliers. A long balcony with pink and green tiled floors has views of downtown Los Angeles, and the primary bathroom has a bathtub and a separate shower both lined in cream-colored tile with black and green accents.

The other bedroom on this level has its own en suite bathroom with a combined tub and shower.

Outdoor space: The front courtyard is partially shaded and can accommodate outdoor dining. Around the corner is a pétanque court, and behind the house is a detached one-car garage.

Taxes: $36,252 (estimated)

Mammoth Lakes | $2.85 million

A ski house built in 1982 and recently renovated, on 0.2 acres

This four-bedroom, four-and-a-half-bathroom house is a five-minute drive from Mammoth Mountain ski area, where the season runs from early November to mid-June. The center of town is also within a five-minute drive, its main drag offering a coffee shop, casual restaurants and a ski shop. A supermarket is nearby, as are a brewery and a bowling alley.

By car, the east side of Yosemite National Park is an hour away, and Reno is a three-hour drive. Los Angeles and San Francisco are both around five hours away.

Size: 3,243 square feet

Price per square foot: $879

Indoors: From the driveway, steps lead to the front door, which opens to a tiled foyer. From here, a staircase rises to the main level, which includes a combined living and dining room and the kitchen. In the living room there’s an electric fireplace with a raised hearth and south-facing windows overlooking the deck.

Both the living and dining areas face the kitchen, which has a stainless steel Thor range with a gas cooktop. The kitchen also has a wine refrigerator, and the ceilings on this level have wood beams. A bedroom and a full bathroom with glossy black tile are also on this level, and a lofted area reached by ladder could serve as additional guest space.

The primary suite is on the entry level, at the end of a hallway with hardwood floors. From the bedroom, big enough for a king-size bed, French doors open to a private deck, and its bathroom has a stone-clad soaking tub and a separate shower.

Two additional bedrooms are on this level, as is a full bathroom with floral-print wallpaper. A laundry room and a powder room are also off the hallway. At the far end of this level are sauna and an enclosed porch with a hot tub.

The fourth bedroom is on the lowest level of the house. It has its own exterior entrance, a kitchenette and an electric fireplace. Across the hall is a bathroom, where the walk-in shower has goldtone hardware.

Outdoor space: The main deck, directly off the living room has space for outdoor dining and a grill. A street-level garage has one parking spot.

Taxes: $22,044 (estimated)

Palm Springs | $2.845 million

A midcentury modern house built in 1963, on 0.3 acres

This four-bedroom, five-bathroom house was a model home built by the developer Harry Kelso, in a neighborhood that abuts the Indian Canyons Golf Resort. The house was recently featured during Palm Springs Modernism Week and has 1970s-inspired interior design. Much of the home’s furniture is included in the sale.

By car, both downtown Palm Springs and the city’s airport are 10 minutes away. Driving to Los Angeles takes around two hours.

Size: 3,934 square feet

Price per square foot: $723

Indoors: A paved path runs through a front yard with tall palm trees. Behind a set of custom-made wood doors is the foyer, lined on one side with a stone wall.

Straight ahead is the living room, with tile floors and sliding-glass doors that open to a pool. A dining area with orange wallpaper and a bar is off the living room, and beyond that is a den with a wood-paneled accent wall. Off the other side of the living room is a breakfast nook with another stone wall and easy access to the kitchen. The appliances are new, as is a black-and-white tile backsplash. A clerestory window above one of the walls offers a glimpse of palm trees.

The primary suite is off the living room, which is big enough for a king-size bed, a sitting area with a fireplace and a wet bar, and two full bathrooms. Another bedroom off this part of the house has use of a full bathroom next door.

The other two bedrooms are on the opposite side of the house. The smaller, off the den, is used as a home office and has its own bathroom. The other, off the kitchen, is across the hall from another full bathroom. A laundry room is also off the kitchen.

Outdoor space: The backyard pool was recently replastered. The sellers also added two fire pits, a pergola-covered dining patio and a built-in barbecue. Tucked around the corner is an outdoor shower, and the attached garage has one parking spot.

Taxes: $35,568 (estimated)
