PHOENIX — A year after being introduced, more than 250 Valley businesses are taking part in Phoenix’s civic holiday, 602 Day.
The first celebration saw many different applications of the city’s 602 area code, from $6.02 deals or discounts to free merchandise if residents mentioned the new holiday.
The second rendition will offer much of the same and then some, as more participate in the festivities.
Rather than limit deals to the one day — Monday, June 2 this time around — businesses are running special promotions for several days before and after. For example, customers at Randy’s Donuts in Phoenix and Gilbert can buy a dozen doughnuts for $6.02 all day from Friday to Tuesday, a day after the official event.

Phoenix Mayor Kate Gallego in a press release said the civic event is a representation of “the creative spirit that drive our city forward.”
“It’s a chance for residents to show their hometown pride, discover new local experiences and sample some great cuisine,” Gallego said. “I’m proud to see our community come together for a day that’s uniquely and proudly Phoenix.”
Other 602 Day highlights, participants
As of May 27, people can purchase 602 Day T-shirts from State Forty Eight.
Besides this evergreen deal, here are additional city departments getting in on the action:
- 602 smoke detectors will be doled out around the Valley by the Phoenix Fire Department.
- As part of its Summer Reading Program, the Phoenix Public Library will offer 602 Day badges.
- The City of Phoenix Street Transportation Department is offering free bike helmets and safety tips.
- Several senior centers including Desert West Senior Center are providing 602 Day-themed activities.
