“Somebody once told me, you have to go through hell to achieve resurrection. Hallelujah,” says Michael C. Hall‘s bone-chilling titular serial killer as he opens his eyes in a hospital bed. So begins the first trailer for the anticipated Dexter: Resurrection, which picks up immediately following the events of the concluded Dexter: New Blood.

“It’s like seeing a ghost,” says David Zayas’ Miami Metro captain Angel Batista upon greeting Dexter Morgan, warning him of the suspicions around his identity as the Bay Harbor Butcher.

The show’s official logline is as follows: Weeks after Dexter takes a bullet to the chest from his own son, he awakens from a coma to find Harrison (Jack Alcott) gone without a trace. Realizing the weight of what he put his son through, Dexter sets out for New York City, determined to find him and make things right. But closure won’t come easily. When Angel arrives with questions, Dexter realizes his past is catching up to him fast. As father and son navigate their darkness in the city that never sleeps, they soon find themselves deeper than they ever imagined—and that the only way out is together.

As such, we’re introduced to a band of serial killers seemingly recruited by Peter Dinklage’s new character, Leon Prater, a billionaire venture capitalist. While viewed as a generous philanthropist, his polished exterior belies dark intrigue, and he will portray the season’s big bad.

“You really like serial killers,” Dexter says as he looks upon new characters played by Uma Thurman, David Dastmalchian, Eric Stonestreet, Krysten Ritter and Neil Patrick Harris.

“I pride myself on finding the best of the best in every field,” Dinklage responds.

Also reprising their roles are David Magidoff, John Lithgow and Jimmy Smits.

Previously announced was the crime series’ premiere date, debuting with two episodes via streaming and on demand for Paramount+ with Showtime subscribers July 11 before its on-air debut July 13 at 8 p.m. ET/PT. Remaining episodes will drop weekly.

The trailer was unveiled at CCXP Mexico City during the Dexter: Resurrection panel, which featured showrunner and executive producer Clyde Phillips, Hall (who also serves as EP), Zayas and executive producer Scott Reynolds.

Most recently, Dexter: Original Sin, a prequel series following young Dexter (Patrick Gibson) as he transitions from student to serial killer, debuted in December of last year, and will return for Season 2.
