Summary

  • Ross + Kramer has extended Kenny Scharf’s Look Both Ways exhibition until June 28
  • The show includes an array of artworks that span Scharf’s expansive career from the 1980s to the present

Ross + Kramer has extended Kenny Scharf’s Look Both Ways exhibition. Originally scheduled to run until May 24, 2025, the exhibition now remains open beyond its initial closing date. Featuring a dynamic mix of paintings and sculptures, this significant showcase spans Scharf’s expansive career from the 1980s to the present.

Coined as the “father of street art,” Kenny Scharf gained prominence in the ’80s amidst the vibrant East Village art movement. His signature use of spray paint on canvas reflects his street-art origins, translating into a bold, vibrant and “candy-coated” visual universe that humorously reflects on popular culture, science fiction, environmental issues and existential fears.

Among the standout works is “Portalis (2020)”, a cosmic blue painting that transports viewers into an alternate reality filled with luminous green orbs and surreal planetary forms. The transition from painting to sculpture is evident in “Paradis Perdu (cutout) (2022)”, where a cartoon-faced tree emerges from its two-dimensional confines, materializing into a sculptural form with expressive eyes and vibrant blossoms. Scharf’s ability to merge street art techniques with fine art sensibilities continues to captivate audiences, making Look Both Ways a compelling survey of his artistic evolution.

Kenny Scharf’s Look Both Ways exhibition will remain on view at Ross + Kramer’s Miami gallery until June 28, 2025.
