The Minnesota Timberwolves have made an impressive playoff run to the Western Conference Finals for the second straight year. While they are still alive as of this writing and are currently in the middle of facing elimination in Game 5 against the Oklahoma City Thunder, it’s clear they’re missing a piece.
Anthony Edwards is one of the biggest superstars in the NBA. However, the Timberwolves need to bring in a player who can take pressure off of him.
Minnesota has some solid pieces around Edwards, but it does not have a player who can take over a game. The Timberwolves could change that this offseason.
Who could Minnesota target to support Edwards? Kendrick Perkins, an NBA champion himself, has spoken out with the player he thinks would be a perfect fit.

During a segment on the “Road Tripping Podcast,” Perkins shared that he thinks Kevin Durant would be the move the Timberwolves should target.
“I believe so… I think Ant needs KD, and I think KD needs Ant,” Perkins said.
Durant has been mentioned in a lot of trade rumors since before the trade deadline this year. He was discussed in trade talks, but the Phoenix Suns opted not to trade him in the middle of the season.
Throughout the course of the 2024-25 NBA season with the Suns, Durant played in 62 games. He averaged 26.6 points per game to go along with six rebounds, 4.2 assists, and 1.2 blocks, while shooting 52.7 percent from the floor and 43 percent from three-point range.
It would be very expensive to trade for a player of Durant’s status. However, it’s the kind of move that could put Minnesota over the top and into the NBA Finals.

At 36 years old, Durant is slowly winding down his career. Despite his age, he’s still one of the most feared offensive players in the league. Bringing him in for one final run would be a wise move if the Timberwolves can make it.
Opposing defenses would have their hands full trying to defend against the explosiveness of Edwards and the size and scoring ability of Durant. Minnesota may not have interest in attempting to make a move for Durant, but Perkins likes the fit.
Expect to hear a lot of rumors about the Timberwolves when the NBA offseason gets underway.
