This year, Longines marks the 100th anniversary of the world’s first dual time zone wristwatch with the release of a special edition Spirit Zulu Time model.

Deeply embedded in the brand’s traveling heritage, the Longines Zulu Time GMT watch was once introduced for the Royal Canadian Navy, helping them distinguish the time difference between their local time and the zero median, referred to as “Zulu Time.” Having evolved from the Turkish pocket watches that helped convert Turkish time to Western time, the series now lives on in a line of cutting-edge examples, such as the popular Spirit Zulu Time collection.

For the new Longines Spirit Zulu Time 1925, the brand looks to encapsulate the state-of-the-art materials and finishes that it has engineered over the decades. On the dedicated 39mm anniversary piece, a matte black dial is paired with a bidirectional rotating bezel featuring 24-hour graduations. In a first for the series, this bezel comes set in an 18-carat rose gold cap enhanced by rose gold-toned hands, indexes, and a rotor, visible through the transparent case back.

As well as giving the watch a luxurious look, the rose gold alloy, with its copper blend, is used to pay homage to the copper strip embedded in the ground at the Royal Observatory at Greenwich. Further highlighting the centennial celebration, the model introduces intricate etchings of “1925-2025” on the dial and a planisphere motif with the prime meridian on the rotor. As for the technical makeup, fans will be pleased to find the highly magnetic resistant Longines calibre L844.4 powering the watches for up to 72 hours.

Arriving in 39mm and 42mm sizes, Longines will also be delivering two new stainless steel-clad additions to the Spirit Zulu Time collection later this year. With a black dial, rose gold accents, and a ceramic bezel divided into two black shades that indicate day and night, the models appear to adopt an elegant and timeless aesthetic, typical of the brand’s design imprint.

Having recently announced the appointment of its new global brand ambassador Henry Cavill, the actor fronts the latest release’s campaign exploring global connection. In the visuals, Cavill personifies the emotional connection between two travellers, with the Longines Spirit Zulu Time 1925 bridging the gap between their far-flung destinations.

Speaking on the new model, Cavill shares, “In today’s lifestyle, our loved ones and colleagues can often be a world away. However, the Spirit Zulu Time gives me, at a glance, that immediate connection with them, and it does so with the elegance that Longines excels at.”
