Cassie Ventura, Kid Cudi and Dawn Richards are some of the high-profile names to testify in Sean “Diddy” Combs’ federal sex trafficking trial, but don’t expect the Bad Boy founder to take the stand.
Entertainment lawyer and legal expert Lisa Bonner told Page Six it’s “highly unlikely.”
“Once you take the stand, everything you’ve ever done – related to any of these alleged crimes – become fair game,” she said.
“You are under oath and you can go to jail for… perjury, so you want to avoid taking the stand,” she said. (Perjury is the crime of lying under oath).
One of the alleged crimes that has been brought up in trial so far is the bombing of rapper Kid Cudi’s car with a Molotov Cocktail in 2012. The rapper, whose real name is Scott Mescudi, testified last week that he knew Diddy “had something to do with it.”
Should Combs’ take the stand, that is one of the things he may have to answer to, Bonner said.
“There is a lot of evidence that will be presented, even up until now, that I wouldn’t want to answer if I was Diddy,” she said.
“For example, ‘Did you drop the Molotov cocktail in the car or did you have any involvement in that?,” Bonner said.
Combs’ trial is expected to last for eight weeks.
Bonner said she’d be “absolutely surprised” if Combs did take the stand. “There’s nothing to gain, especially if you have any skeletons in your closet,” she concluded.
Combs, 55, is facing life in prison if convicted on federal charges of racketeering, sex trafficking, and other charges. He has pleaded not guilty.
