HBO has officially announced the actors who will portray the iconic trio of Harry Potter, Ron Weasley, and Hermione Granger in its highly anticipated new Harry Potter television series.
The new faces set to bring J.K. Rowling’s beloved characters to life include Dominic McLaughlin as Harry Potter, Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger and Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley. The studio announced that over 30,000 actors auditioned for the lead roles. Showrunner Francesca Gardiner and executive producer and director Mark Mylod said in a statement, “After an extraordinary search led by casting directors Lucy Bevan and Emily Brockmann, we are delighted to announce we have found our Harry, Hermione and Ron. The talent of these three unique actors is wonderful to behold, and we cannot wait for the world to witness their magic together onscreen. We would like to thank all the tens of thousands of children who auditioned. It’s been a real pleasure to discover the plethora of young talent out there.” The cast also includes notable names like John Lithgow as Dumbledore, Janet McTeer as McGonagall, Paapa Essiedu as Snape, and Nick Frost as Hagrid.
Filming for the series is expected to begin in the summer of 2025 at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden in the UK. While a precise release date has not been set, the series is currently targeting a premiere on HBO Max as early as 2026, although some reports suggest it might extend into 2027. This ambitious project aims to offer a more comprehensive exploration of the books’ storylines than the original film series.
