After stealing away home ice advantage in Game 2 of the NHL Western Conference Finals, the Edmonton Oilers picked up a big win at home and a 2-1 series lead over the Dallas Stars in Game 3.
Although they weren’t a prolific scoring club in the regular season (11th of 32 NHL teams), the Oilers have shown in this series that they can light the lamp with the best of them, scoring 12 goals through the first three games. In Game 3, they thoroughly dismantled the Stars’ defense en route to a 6-1 victory. Zach Hyman (2 goals, one assist), Evander Kane (3 assists,) and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins (3 assists) led the team with three points each, with team captain Connor McDavid adding two goals of his own.
For Dallas, they need to find the offensive spark they had in Game 1 of the series, where they scored five goals in the third period, including three on the power play. Since that outburst, the Stars have scored just once in their last 120 minutes on the ice, getting shut out in Game 2 and scoring just once in Game 3 (Jason Robertson). The lack of success also translated to the hits category, where the Stars were outhit 47-30.
