IOI Partners and Build a Rocket Boy dropped a new trailer on MindsEye, a new title coming on June 10 from the co-creator of Grand Theft Auto V.
The title is a cross between the gritty crime of GTAV and a future with AI robots. It also has user-generated content and post-launch live operations coming as well. MindsEye is set to release June 10 for PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PS5 for $60.
The news update includes details of MindsEye’s unique Game Creation Tools, which allow players to craft their own content using MindsEye assets, from custom missions to entirely new scenarios within the game’s dense world. Build a Rocket Boy also confirmed that it will continue providing updates through these same tools, extending the game’s lifespan even further.
The trailer has a lot of cinematic elements that make it seem like a bold new intellectual property. But it’s also received some nitpicky comments from fans about how the shooting looks generic and the bullet spray is too wild. I wonder why the main character doesn’t take better cover when challenging a half-dozen enemies, but I am glad to see new competition for the first time in years for GTA. While many big game companies have fallen back on sequels, it’s refreshing to see a big bet on a new franchise.
The drone combat in particular is futuristic and could add new elements to the combat, and it will be interesting to see where the AI narrative goes.
Game director Leslie Benzies started Build a Rocket Boy after a falling out with Rockstar Games, the creator of the GTA series. He built a big team, raised a lot of money and partnered with publisher IOI Partners, which is part of the company behind the Hitman series.
The title is a narrative-driven action-adventure thriller launching on June 10, 2025, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and on PC via Steam and Epic Games Store.
Build a Rocket Boy said the title focuses on best-in-class cinematics, dynamic gameplay, and groundbreaking integration with user-generated content through a proprietary Game Creation System that promises to keep players engaged long after the credits roll.
Set in the near-futuristic city of Redrock, MindsEye delivers a tightly crafted linear story campaign. Players will step into the shoes of Jacob Diaz, a former soldier haunted by fragmented memories from his mysterious MindsEye neural implant, as he uncovers a conspiracy involving rogue AI, corporate greed, an unchecked military, and a threat so sinister that it endangers the very survival of humanity. The game’s story is brought to life with state-of-the-art visuals built on Unreal Engine 5.
On the UGC front, MindsEye includes Build A Rocket Boy’s proprietary Game Creation System, empowering players to craft anything in their minds eye, in MindsEye. This deceptively easy-to-use Game Creation System has been hailed as a “novel feature for creative gamers” and is the very same system Build A Rocket Boy uses to create the continuous stream of premium content for our players. The game is set in Redrock, a fictional version of Las Vegas.
Players can craft their own experiences using all of the MindsEye assets, creating everything from custom missions to entirely new scenarios within the game’s expansive, richly detailed world. Whether you’re designing a high-speed chase through Redrock’s bustling cityscapes or a stealth mission in its industrial outskirts, it is designed to be intuitive and easy to use, ensuring that players of all skill levels can bring their imagination to life. The open world part of the game reminds me of the interface for the “World of Assassination” for the Hitman game.
Build A Rocket Boy will be delivering a constant stream of fresh premium content monthly, thanks to the power of the Game Creation System, ensuring MindsEye is a living, ever-expanding player experience. The studio will regularly release new missions, challenges, and game assets.
The continuous stream of studio-developed content, combined with the very best of the community’s own beautiful creations, means that MindsEye will continue to surprise and delight its players for decades to come.
The $60 price will be a refreshing departure for players on a budget compared to the standard $70 to $80 price tag for other big titles. MindsEye will have a Standard Edition, while the Deluxe Edition includes a Premium Pass and exclusive content like the “Exotic Pack.”
“We’re beyond excited to bring MindsEye to players worldwide,” said Benzies, founder and game director at Build A Rocket Boy, in a statement. “Our team has poured their passion and dedication into creating MindsEye and the Game Creation System for almost a decade, to deliver players an unforgettable story campaign and empower them to craft their own world-class experiences. Continuous updates and fresh new content from our studio ensure MindsEye is an endless adventure.”
