Hear me out: If you only own one sculpting undergarment, it should be one of the best shapewear bodysuits. I love dressing up, and for years I’ve relied on various pieces to make me feel confident and supported. I always gravitated towards shorts since I mainly wear dresses—until I discovered that bodysuits could make me look both snatched and curvy (a power combination) while often eliminating the need for a bra. (There’s nothing worse than stressing over whether your shorts and bra line meet without creating an awkward bulge, am I right?)
Over the last couple of months, I tried two dozen highly-rated options, ranging from light compression to omg-can-I-get-this-off tight. I tested brands we all know—Skims and Spanx—as well as a $23 option from Shapemint on Amazon. My overall favorite was the Honeylove Cami Bodysuit; it offered amazing support while still being comfortable enough to wear all day (something I wouldn’t volunteer for with every brand I tried). But other options will work better if you need a thong or a strapless option—trust me, there’s an option out there for every need or occasion.

- Taking on and off: Simple pull-on style
- What we love: Padded cups, adjustable straps, double lined
- What could improve: Less panty lines
The Honeylove Cami Bodysuit is known and loved by multiple Glamour staffers and contributors and I fully get the hype. It was easy to step into this bodysuit, which offered great, double-lined support. It felt thick and secure, supportive and tight, but not too restrictive. I could easily wear this all day and without feeling like I was making a sacrifice. It has a padded bust without underwire, as well as medium-thick straps that are adjustable. I think this bodysuit would work with multiple cup sizes, since the padding in the cups is removable. There’s a three-hook and eye closure in the crotch so you can adjust the length for your body. It has full booty coverage, which might work for a more flowy midi dress, but could show visible panty lines if you’re wearing a tighter, or more sheer skirt. I wore this with both a t-shirt and jeans as well as a fit and flare dress and felt really amazing both times. I have the sand colorway, which I think is the most versatile with my fair skin. I have the medium, and I think it fits true to size. I washed it in a lingerie bag and hung it to dry, and it came out of my machine good as new.

- Great for: Under a T-shirt
- Taking on and off: Simple pull-on style
- What we love: Affordable, seamless design, convertible straps
- What could improve: No underwire breast support
I tried this one on in brown, size medium (my usual top size), and I appreciated the firm control, convertible, adjustable straps, and level of comfort this seamless thong one-piece provided. It’s not overly tight, which makes it a great, daily basic for under a t-shirt or dress to smooth and give light control. It has adjustable straps and two snaps on the crotch for bathroom trips. I found this super stretchy and easy to pull on and off. It wasn’t the most snatching, but it did make everything look smooth and polished. For under $50, this is a great option to elevate your everyday look.

- Taking on and off: Pull-on style
- What we love: Removable, adjustable straps that can be worn 5 ways, amazing bust support, can buy according to cup size
- What could improve: Price is high, more colors
For special occasions, this easy-to-get-on strapless bodysuit is a no-brainer. The molded underwire cups felt really supportive, and they offer band sizes 34 through 40 and cup sizes C through G to ensure a perfect fit. I never felt like I was pulling or tugging this up, a problem I’ve had in the past with other strapless bras and shapewear. It also includes convertible straps, so you can wear it in a variety of ways. The bodysuit itself was double lined in the front, and feels super soft and silky. The crotch features a 3 by 3 hook and eye closure, and a full-brief underwear style. I really loved this bra-bodysuit combo for wedding season as it gave me a great hourglass shape.

- Taking on and off: Pull-on style, difficult
- What we love: Extremely slimming, detachable straps, underwire bra
- What could improve: More options for specific bust sizing
I tried this bodysuit in shade Jasper, size large. Wow, it was hard to get on. It took a while but once I was able to shimmy it up my body, it felt very secure and tight. It really made a difference on my stomach, especially after having a child via C-section. Everything felt exactly where it should be, and it felt like I was wearing a corset. There is a slit in the crotch for bathroom breaks, which is definitely necessary considering the effort it takes to get on and off. The underwire cups were a little too big on my small C-cup chest, but it still worked. I also liked that the straps (which are convertible and removable as well) were very far to the side to accommodate a wider neckline. The quality of this garment is great. It almost feels like a tight scuba suit, in the best way possible. I will definitely be reaching for this again if I’m wearing something short and tight. I do think you can size up one size for a more comfortable experience.

- What could improve: Panty lines
This under $30 option is soft and offers just the right amount of support without feeling restrictive. The straps are adjustable for added comfort, but here is no built-in bust support, so you can wear this one with or without a bra. I found this bodysuit easy to wear all day, with jeans as a great tank top alternative in the summer or under a dress if I just wanted a seamless look. It has very subtle mesh panels on the side but the black is very inconspicuous—it didn’t show my bra lines underneath. It has full booty coverage, with three snaps in the crotch. But you might have to be aware of panty lines if you are wearing a sheer or silk skirt. I tried the black colorway in size large–I would size up one size.

- Great for: Wearing with jeans
- Taking on and off: Over the head like a t-shirt
- What we love: Very tight compression, lightweight, soft fabric, on Amazon
- What could improve: Could see bra through the bodysuit
I’m not exaggerating when I say I have a dozen Mangopop bodysuits. They have every style including long-sleeve, but this short-sleeve option, which I wore in a size large, is super sexy and cute for summer with a pair of shorts or jeans. The tummy control bodysuit is tight, but stretchy, so it’s just a little bit hard to put on (I recommend getting dressed before you put on your makeup and deodorant). But once it’s in place, it’s super flattering (I think it took 2 inches off my waist) and feels great. It’s perfect with tight jeans since it snatches your waist so much. You can pair it with tummy control undies to look extra snatched. The fabric is soft and comfortable, and it feels very lightweight, perfect for any season. This suit features a thong design with a two-snap crotch, which is a little tricky at first, but gets easier with practice. The price is right and I love the hot pink color—I just wish there were more size options available.

- What could improve: More color options
I wore this camisole (size medium) with a strapless bra, which I felt like you could see a bit through the thin material, but the bodysuit itself was super soft and comfy. (Although I would recommend sizing up with this brand.) The pink color felt refreshing since most shapewear bodysuits are only available in black, white, or skin tones. The two snaps on the bottom stayed secure as I moved around throughout the day—always a risk, but this one passed the test.

- Great for: Base layer under shirts and tight dresses
- Taking on and off: Stretchy pull-on style
- What we love: No pantylines, Lift and separates breasts, good price point
- What could improve: Fabric needs more tender care
I tested the medium/large size of this Lizzo-founded brand, and when I took it out of the package, it looked like it would fit my 6-year-old daughter. However, it stretches beautifully and it was super easy to pull on. It was supportive and snug without being uncomfortable, and I wore this all day with no issues, other than the fact that there is no slit or snaps on the crotch. Even so, it was easy to simply pull it to the side for bathroom breaks. You’ll get some bust shaping, but you can also wear this with a bra if you have a bigger chest or just need more support. The straps are not adjustable, but the fabric is stretchy enough to fit all body types well. The inside has a super soft paneling, almost reminiscent of a light fleece. The brand does recommend washing by hand or with light colors since some transfer can occur, and hanging to dry.
Best With a Bra: Le Mystère Seamless Comfort Thong Bodysuit

Nordstrom
- Available sizes: S–XL
- Fabrics: Nylon, spandex
- Colors: 2 options
- Great for: Everyday smoothing
- Taking on and off: Easy pull-on style
- What we love: Light and breathable for all seasons, adjustable straps, thong cut
- What could improve: More bust support, more sizes
The Le Mystère Seamless Comfort Thong Bodysuit was one of the most comfortable I tried. It was very lightweight and soft, perfect for year-round wear. It was not super slimming but it was smoothing, with light bust control. The bodysuit is stretchy and comfortable, and an overall great basic. I wore the medium, and found it ran true to size. The straps are adjustable, and the thong ensures there will be no panty lines in a tight skirt or high-waisted trousers. I wish there were more color options and plus-size availability, but I really liked this bodysuit for its ease of wear and smooth shaping on my boobs and stomach. I also like the subtle v-neck design, which allowed me to wear it under more shirts and dresses without it peeking through.

- What we love: Extremely flattering, swimsuit that doubles as a bodysuit
- What could improve: Straps are a little thick/matronly
This is a swimsuit, but I think it looks so great, I’ve been known to wear mine on vacation with jeans—a 2-for-1 packing hack I learned from a well-traveled friend. I tried this suit in their midnight blue shade, in a size 12. I would size up here, since their suits do run a bit small. (I’m normally a medium or a size 8.) The ruching on the waist is very flattering and I appreciated the little peek-a-boo mesh panels that give some sexiness while still offering support. The suit is very comfortable, and really holds everything in place. There is a built-in bra (with underwire), and adjustable straps, as well as a low scoop back.

- Colors: 4 options
- Great for: Plunging necklines, special occasions
- Taking on and off: Step in and pull up style
- What we love: Low-cut front for plunging necklines, adjustable and convertible straps
- What could improve: Not a ton of bust support for larger chests
I almost never wear clothing with low necklines because I rarely have luck with sticky bras staying in place. But this low-back mid-thigh bodysuit (I wore it in the Champagne Beige color, size large) was absolutely perfect for my plunging blue halter dress. You couldn’t see the undergarment at all, and I felt more secure than wearing a flimsy sticky bra. The bodysuit is versatile, lightweight, and it’s not as tight or binding as the Skims one. It comes with both matching and clear straps so you can wear it in a variety of ways—criss-cross, halter, racerback, and more. There is also a gusset to easily go to the bathroom, so it’s perfect as a bridal shapewear option.
The back can be worn open and low, or you can use a bra extender panel to add some more support if needed. I wish there was underwire in the bra to support larger chests, but it was still pretty supportive considering the plunging, open-bust design–a lot more supportive than bra cups or tapes that I’ve used in the past. The hem on the thighs didn’t dig in or ride up—overall, this suit is a win for special occasions because of the versatility it provides in outfit choices.
