MOBILE COUNTY, Ala. (WKRG) — A Mobile County jury has awarded $6 million to a local man after his vehicle was hit by a tractor-trailer in 2022, leaving him badly injured, News 5 has learned.

According to a news release from Andy Citrin Injury Attorneys, the crash occurred on March 15, 2022, when an MK Trucking commercial truck driver ran a stop sign while traveling north at the Red Fox Road and U.S. Highway 43 intersection in Mobile County.

The release said Clarence Roberts was traveling north on Highway 43 at the time; he had the right of way when the truck hit his vehicle.

It reportedly took emergency officials 40 minutes to extract Roberts from his vehicle, and he was taken to the University of South Alabama Hospital. There, he was treated for severe injuries, including rib fractures and head injuries that required sutures and staples.

Those “injuries dramatically impacted his quality of life and required extensive medical care that Roberts will require for the remainder of his life,” Andy Citrin Injury Attorneys said in a statement.

“This was a preventable tragedy,” Citrin said. “Truck drivers and trucking companies have a duty to operate safely. When they fail to follow the rules of the road, the consequences can be devastating.

“We’re proud to have stood up for Mr. Roberts and to have secured a verdict that reflects the seriousness of what he endured.”
