The New York Giants brought in two cornerstone pieces for the future in the 2025 NFL Draft. With the No. 3 pick, they landed Penn State’s elite pass rusher Abdul Carter. Later in the first round, they traded back in to get Ole Miss quarterback Jaxson Dart.
Both players have the talent and potential to become the main piece on each side of the football to lead the Giants back to legitimate playoff contention.
Of course, the players will need to develop and reach their respective ceilings. Carter will have a chance to make an immediate impact in 2025, while no one knows quite what to expect from New York’s quarterback room at this point.
Dart put together an impressive college career. He played his first season with the USC Trojans before finishing out with three years at Ole Miss.

During the 2024 college football season with the Rebels, Dart completed 69.3 percent of his pass attempts for 4,279 yards, 29 touchdowns, and just six interceptions. He also rushed for 495 yards and three scores on the ground.
Looking ahead to the 2025 season, could Dart be the starter at some point? Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston are also on the roster, but the Giants’ rookie might be able to work his way onto the field.
Connor Hughes of SNY has made a new prediction for Dart. He doesn’t see the rookie taking the field before Week 10 and he isn’t “predicting” that Dart will play in that week.
“They genuinely believe Russell Wilson can play, play well, elevate those around him and make the Giants a competent club this year,” Hughes wrote. “Seldom do things go according to plan. Considering that brutal stretch the Giants face the first nine weeks … it’s hard to imagine things not going haywire. Especially if New York sits at 1-8 or 2-7. There isn’t a soft landing spot for Dart the first two months. The late bye doesn’t make things any easier, either. The Week 10 matchup with the Bears, whose season feels like it could go in two completely different directions, is the earliest I can see it happening. Week 15 versus Washington is likely where the Giants hope they can get to.”

Basically, he does see a path to playing time for Dart as a rookie. However, he does not see him being on the field early on in 2025.
Regardless of when Dart takes the field, there will be a high level of excitement surrounding him. The Giants have been needing to find a legitimate long-term franchise quarterback. Perhaps the Ole Miss product will finally give them that answer.
