The Indiana Fever came into the 2025 WNBA season with high expectations. Caitlin Clark was expected to be an MVP candidate, and the Fever were one of the buzz teams who were viewed as a possible championship contender.

After their 2-2 starts, the hype had calmed down a bit. Now, the hype has died down dramatically.

On Monday, the news came down that Clark will miss the next two weeks at least due to a quad injury. She played in the team’s last game against the New York Liberty, which seems to be when the injury popped up.

Clark has played in all four games so far this season, averaging 19 points per game to go along with 9.3 assists, six rebounds, 1.3 steals, and a block. She has shot 40.3 percent from the floor and 31.4 percent from three-point range.

Those numbers were not exactly what fans had expected to see, but the season is also only four games old.

Following the news of Clark’s injury, Indiana head coach Stephanie White spoke out about it and honestly revealed that she wasn’t sure when it happened.

“I don’t know when it happened,” White said. “I know afterwards we got a message that she had something going on with her leg and they were getting an MRI and we got the word yesterday.”

After that quote, White did confirm that she found out about the injury after the Liberty game.

With Clark now out for at least two weeks, the Fever will need other players to step up in order to remain competitive in her absence. One of those players will be Sophie Cunningham, who seems the likely candidate to slide into the starting lineup.

Cunningham was acquired in an offseason trade with the Phoenix Mercury. She has played in two games this season off the bench.

Last season, in 40 games and 21 starts, Cunningham averaged 8.4 points, 3.9 rebounds, two assists, and a steal per game. She shot 42.9 percent from the floor and 37.8 percent from three-point range.

Hopefully, Clark is able to attack her rehab process and get back on the court soon.

Next up for Indiana will be a Wednesday night game on the road against the Washington Mystics. The Fever will look to pick up a much-needed win to begin their time period without Clark available.
