Early on in the 2025 NFL offseason, the Minnesota Vikings were connected heavily to future Hall of Fame quarterback Aaron Rodgers. Since then, they have seemingly decided to pass on him and focus on the future with J.J. McCarthy under center.
Rodgers remains a free agent. He has been expected to sign with the Pittsburgh Steelers for weeks, but has yet to put pen to paper on a deal.
Some have wondered why Rodgers is delaying signing with the Steelers. While he has personal life issues going on, there has been speculation that he’s waiting to see if another opportunity outside of Pittsburgh opens up.
At the time the Vikings were being viewed as a possible landing spot for Rodgers, it seemed that he preferred landing in Minnesota. Could he be waiting to see if the Vikings change their mind and decide to bring him in for a year?

With that speculation still a possibility, ESPN NFL insider Jeremy Fowler has spoken out with a new update about Rodgers and Minnesota.
During an appearance on the “Dan Patrick Show” recently, Fowler put the rumors surrounding Rodgers and the NFC contender to rest.
“There’s some teams I’ve talked to, they are still kind of wondering, like, is he just waiting out the Vikings, you know? Because the Vikings would be an ideal scenario, one of the best play callers in the league in head coach Kevin O’Connell, nine dome games, you’re guaranteed nine dome games per year,” Fowler said.
He continued on, ending the rumors about the Vikings signing Rodgers.
“There’s some element of that, but I checked in with the Vikings, I still don’t expect that,” he said. “They’re moving forward with J.J. McCarthy. So he really has no other option, other than Pittsburgh or retiring.”

More than likely, Rodgers will make some kind of decision in the near future. With the Steelers set to open mandatory minicamp in on June 10, they will want to have an idea of what their future holds at quarterback.
It would have been fun to see the 41-year-old quarterback in Minnesota and facing the Green Bay Packers twice in 2025, but that dream seems to be gone. McCarthy is the lead man for the Vikings, and that isn’t likely to change.
