A voter who has indicated previous support of Donald Trump and the Republican Party has gone viral after saying the GOP “blew it.”
Posting on X, formerly Twitter, Matt Van Swol, a former nuclear scientist blasted the GOP for failing to codify cuts made to the federal government by Trump’s new agency, the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) and said the party had lost his trust.
The cuts are aimed at reducing waste, targeting inefficiency and saving money.

Van Swol previously voted Democrat but became a Republican influencer on social media after calling for more aid in North Carolina after Hurricane Helene in 2024, according to the Telegraph. He frequently tweets about political issues.
Trump won the November 2024 election in part by wooing voters in swing states like North Carolina.

In March, Senate Republicans pushed for Congress to enshrine into law DOGE cuts, aiming to turn them into enduring policy shifts. However, some Republicans have pushed back, saying this would be difficult to achieve, according to the Washington Post.

“I’m done with the GOP. You’ve lost me. You had your chance and you f****** blew it…I was SO excited for this administration because of the promise of DOGE…but then I watched as the GOP do NOTHING while Elon’s businesses were bombed and Teslas were vandalized.
