It’s official: The Devil Wears Prada really is getting a sequel.
Though ideas for a DWP sequel have been percolating for years, fans really began getting their hopes up when Anne Hathaway wore a cerulean blue dress to reunite with Meryl Streep and Emily Blunt at the 2024 SAG Awards. By July 2024, Variety reported that a sequel to the 2006 fashion comedy was in early development at Disney, though Hathaway’s return to The Princess Diaries universe appeared to take priority once the 42-year-old actor confirmed her involvement in October 2024.
There had been no further updates on The Devil Wears Prada 2…until now. According to Variety, Runway magazine is about to be back in print, whether or not intrepid journalist Andy Sachs (Hathaway) is around to fulfill editor-in-chief Miranda Priestly’s (Streep) every whim. Here’s everything we know about the Devil Wears Prada sequel.
The Devil Wears Prada sequel is coming in 2026.
On May 23, Variety reported that Disney has set the sequel’s theatrical release date for May 1, 2026.
What’s the sequel about?
Variety’s original report claimed the sequel “follows Priestly as she navigates her career amid the decline of traditional magazine publishing and faces off against Blunt’s character, now a high-powered executive for a luxury group with advertising dollars that Priestly desperately needs.”

They’re not wrong!
Who is returning?
Nearly a year ago, Variety reported that Streep would be starring in the sequel alongside Emily Blunt, who portrayed Andy’s rival assistant, Emily Charlton, in the original film. As of today, no official cast announcements have been made.
That means there’s also no update on Stanley Tucci, who played Runway’s longtime fashion editor Nigel, though his involvement seems likely. “I know they’re working on it,” he told Variety in January 2025. “If it happens, I would be so happy, but I cannot give you any information. Otherwise, I’ll go to the actor’s prison or something.” Sounds like he still knows something we don’t!
Meanwhile, I’m hoping for a cameo from Gisele Bündchen, who was reluctant to play the heel-clacking Runway staff member Serena back in the day. In 2022, Bündchen told British Vogue she declined the role when Devil Wears Prada writer Aline Brosh McKenna approached her to act in the film. “I’m like, ‘No, I’m not interested. I’m not gonna play a model, I do that every day,’” she recalled. Thankfully, she changed her mind in the end.

Wait, what about Anne Hathaway?
Well, Hathaway has been pretty against a sequel in the past. “There’s not going to be a sequel. It’s not gonna happen. We can’t do it,” she told Entertainment Tonight in 2023.
Her position somewhat softened in 2024, though she still had strong reservations. “We all love each other and if somebody could come up with a way to do it, I think we’d all be crazy not to,” she told V Magazine in April 2024. “But there’s a huge difference in the world now with technology, and one of the things about that particular story is it was about producing a physical object. Now with so much being digital, it would just be very different.”

Is it possible Disney execs have been working on convincing the original star? It’s certainly possible if you believe Entertainment Weekly’s 2024 report. At the time, a “source close to the production” told EW that Hathaway, Streep, Blunt, and Tucci are all in talks to reprise their roles, as is the original creative team, including director David Frankel, producer Wendy Finerman, and screenwriter Aline Brosh McKenna.
