Two people were arrested after a U.S. Postal Service worker was robbed at gunpoint in Palos Verdes Estates, officials announced Friday.

It was around 5 p.m. on Thursday when the Palos Verdes Estates Police Department received a call reporting the armed robbery on Via Tejon, outside of the U.S. Post Office in Malaga Cove.

Officers arrived and spoke with the victim, a USPS postal worker, who said he was gathering mail when one of the two suspects approached him.

The suspect purportedly “displayed a handgun” and demanded the USPS worker’s keys and work phone.

Police said the suspect took the keys and phone, got in a vehicle and fled the scene.

“About 30 minutes later, PVEPD officers located the suspect vehicle unoccupied and parked in Redondo Beach and conducted surveillance,” said the department in an Instagram post.

Around 7:15 p.m., officers watched as a woman got into the suspect vehicle and drove away, followed closely by a second vehicle being driven by a man who police noticed matched the armed robbery suspect description.

“Officers conducted a felony traffic stop on both cars in Redondo Beach and took both suspects into custody without further incident,” said PVEPD.

Although both suspects were arrested, police noted that the firearm and the stolen property remain outstanding.

“PVEPD detectives will continue to relentlessly investigate,” said the department’s post. “We would like to recognize the men and women who worked diligently and swiftly on this dynamic situation. Their hard work and dedication led to the arrest of two suspects.”
