Germany looking to extend three international missions
German Chancellor ‘s government is looking to extend involvement in three international missions.
His cabinet on Wednesday approved the extension of mandates for the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) in the eastern Mediterranean, the NATO-led Force (KFOR) and the EU mission EUFOR Althea .
“By continuing its participation in these missions, the German government is emphasizing its ongoing commitment to peace andstability,” government spokesman Stefan Kornelius said.
Germany’s lower house of Parliament, the Bundestag, still needs to give its approval before the measures can take effect.
Kornelius said Germany will continue to deploy a maximum of 400 troops to Kosovo and up to 50 soldiers who form part of EUFOR Althea in .
Up to 300 German soldiers will also continue their , which has been monitoring the border area between Israel and Lebanon since 1978.

German GDP sees 0.4% growth in the first quarter of 2025
has seen better than expected growth in the first quarter of 2025 with the Federal Statistics Office (Destatis) reporting an improvement of 0.4% when compared to the the last quarter of 2024.
It is twice the initial growth forecast of 0.2% and comes off the back of rising exports and stronger consumer spending during the period in question.
Ruth Brand, president of Destatis, pointed to “surprisingly good economic development in March” as a key driver behind the higher growth figures.
Brand said said there was better than expected performance in production in the manufacturing sector and exports, especially of cars and pharmaceuticals.
That all came as producers tried to get on the frontfoot ahead of the earlier in April.
Thursday saw Germany’s new Finance Minister highlight how the new coalition government is looking to revive the country’s economy.

There’s been a surprising level of growth in the German economy during the first three months of 2025 according to the latest official figures. We’ll be getting a better sense of what has led to the better than expected figures we’re seeing.
