The Golden State Warriors are entering a crucial offseason with a lot of questions around the roster. One of the biggest concerns surrounds young forward Jonathan Kuminga and his future with the team.

Kuminga has seen major ups and downs with the Warriors since he was drafted, and he will now be entering restricted free agency. Golden State wants to keep Kuminga around, but his price tag could see him leave town.
There have been all sorts of rumors around Kuminga, but he is a valuable asset to the team. Warriors general manager Mike Dunleavy comments on the future of Kuminga, giving a hint at how Golden State feels on the matter.
“We value JK,” Warriors general manager Mike Dunleavy Jr. said via ESPN’s Ohm Youngmisuk. “I think he had a resilient season. … As far as bringing him back next season, I think it’s something we’re very interested in doing because, when I look at the things JK does well, in terms of getting to the rim, finishing, getting fouled, these are things we greatly need. We know he can bring those to the table. It’s not hypothetical.
For that reason, we’ll try to bring him back, but you’ve got to have those conversations. You’ve got to figure it out. It’s a two-way street in terms of creating — getting a new contract and all of that. So, we’ll see where it goes.”
Kuminga has seen his playing time dwindle at different moments of his career, but he has pushed through it all. The young forward has emerged as a solid role player for this Warriors team, and Golden State would likely benefit from keeping him around.
For the season, Kuminga averaged 15.3 points, 4.6 rebounds, 2.2 assists, and 0.8 steals per game. The forward also shot 45.4 percent from the field and showed impressive value in the postseason.
But with the new CBA restrictions in place, Golden State may be forced to move on from Kuminga if he wants too much money. The Warriors are looking to upgrade the roster around stars Stephen Curry and Jimmy Butler, and Kuminga could be the odd man out.
