President Donald Trump has issued a statement after two Israeli embassy staffers were shot and killed on Thursday evening near the Capital Jewish Museum in Washington, D.C.

The victims, a man and a woman, were exiting an event at the museum when the shooting occurred, D.C. Metro Police chief Pamela Smith said at a press conference. A single suspect, 30-year-old Elias Rodriguez, is in custody, she added. The suspect “chanted ‘free, free Palestine,’ while in custody,” Smith continued.

Trump took to Truth Social early Monday morning, writing: “These horrible D.C. killings, based obviously on antisemitism, must end, NOW! Hatred and Radicalism have no place in the USA. Condolences to the families of the victims. So sad that such things as this can happen! God Bless You ALL!”

Israeli embassy spokesperson Tal Naim Cohen told media the victims were shot “at close range.”

Attorney General Pam Bondi was present at the press conference with former judge and Fox News host Jeanine Pirro, who is the interim U.S. attorney in Washington.

“I am on the scene of the horrible shooting outside the Washington, DC Capital Jewish Museum with @USAttyPirro,” Bondi wrote on X. “Praying for the victims of this violence as we work to learn more.”

This is a breaking news story and will be updated.
