Bobby Cannavale, James Corden and Neil Patrick Harris will return to Broadway this fall in the first-ever Broadway revival of the Tony Award-winning Art by Yasmina Reza, translated by Christopher Hampton.

Tony Award nominee Scott Ellis (Pirates! The Penzance Musical, Take Me Out) will direct, with previews to begin at Broadway’s Music Box Theatre on Thursday, August 28, with an official opening night on Tuesday, September 16. The production will play a limited 17-week engagement through December 21.

The announcement was made today by producers Sand & Snow Entertainment (Michael Shulman), ATG Productions and Gavin Kalin Productions.

“On behalf of my partners Adam Speers, Gavin Kalin, and myself, we are thrilled to be producing the first-ever Broadway revival of this iconic Tony-Award winning play with three iconic, award-winning actors, Bobby Cannavale, James Corden, and Neil Patrick Harris, under the helm of the legendary Scott Ellis,” said producer Michael Shulman. “Ever since I first saw the original production, it has been etched into my mind as a hysterical and moving portrayal of friendship, compromise, and the power of art to change perspectives.”

Reza’s play premiered in 1994 at Comédie des Champs-Élysées in Paris, with English-language versions debuting in London in 1996 and on Broadway in 1998. The Broadway production starred Alan Alda, Victor Garber and Alfred Molina.

The comedy follows three longtime friends and what happens when one makes an extravagant purchase of a completely white painting, leading to intense disagreements over what constitutes art. Ego and money come into play, of course.

Cannavale, who will play the character Marc, last appeared on Broadway in 2018’s The Lifespan of a Fact. Among his five Broadway appearances are Tony-nominated performances in 2009’s Mauritius and 2011’s The Motherf*cker With The Hat. TV and film credits include Boardwalk Empire, The Watcher and Martin Scorsese’s The Irishman.

Corden, who will play Yvan, made his Broadway debut in 2006’s The History Boys, and won a Tony Award for One Man, Two Guvnors in 2012. Corden hosted CBS’ The Late Late Show with James Corden from 2015 to 2023.

Harris, cast as the art-buying Serge, made his Broadway debut in 2003 in Cabaret, returning four times including Hedwig and the Angry Inch, for which he won a Tony in 2014. Harris is a five-time Emmy Award-winner best known to TV audiences for How I Met Your Mother.

The design team for Art will be announced at a later date.
