Merit Bank announces new additions to banking teams

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) — Merit Bank announced on Tuesday that it has hired four new industry professionals as part of its growing commercial banking teams.

“We are thrilled to welcome these gentlemen to the Merit Bank team. I have known each of them for some time and they bring not only extensive banking expertise but also a deep understanding of our local market and a commitment to building relationships that matter. They share the values that define Merit Bank — community involvement, integrity, and a client-first mindset,” President and CEO Will Heaps said.

J.E.P. Buchanan, Senior Vice President

Merit Bank said Buchanan is a known and trusted banker in North Alabama who is entering his 35th year in banking in the area. Offering decades of experience, he specializes in commercial lending and the credit quality of commercial loan portfolios.

In his new role, he will work with Merit’s Executive Management team in areas of development, acquisition and management of commercial relationships, as well as providing leadership and guidance to the credit administration team.

Thomas Busby, Huntsville Market Executive

Busby will work closely with Merit Bank’s Executive Management team to lead the Retail, Commericial and Private Banking Teams. With over 25 years of experience, he brings extensive expertise in commercial banking, credit and relationship management.

Being a longtime resident of Huntsville, Busby is involved in civic and economic development initiatives. Merit Bank said he brings a strategic vision for market development a nd a deep understanding of the area’s economic landscape.

Nick McKinney, Senior Vice President/Commercial Banking

In this role, Merit Bank said McKinney will add deep experience in commercial and industrial lending and relationship management to Merit’s commercial team. For over a decade, McKinney worked closely with various industries throughout the area and is known for his expertise in healthcare and government contracting.

John Mark McClelland, Vice President/Relationship Manager

McClelland will support the growth of the commercial banking division, bringing energy, insight and a commitment to expanding the bank’s reach by working with businesses across the area. Merit Bank said he has a reputation for delivering thoughtful, solutions-oriented service and building lasting partnerships throughout North Alabama.
