The Cleveland Browns have a major quarterback controversy brewing with five total players currently on the roster at the position. Shedeur Sanders has been by far the most talked about player in the room, but he is facing an uphill battle to playing time in his rookie season.
Along with Sanders, the Browns also have fellow rookie Dillon Gabriel, Kenny Pickett, Joe Flacco, and Deshaun Watson on the roster. All five of those players are going to be looked at as potential options.
Watson seems to be the longest shot to open the season as the starter, with Flacco not offering any long-term value to Cleveland. Sanders, Gabriel, and Pickett all seem to be in the top group.
While Sanders will be competing with Gabriel, who the Browns drafted before him in the 2025 NFL draft, the former Colorado Buffaloes’ standout spoke highly of his teammate when asked about him.

In an interview with DJ Siddiqi of SportsCasting, Sanders opened up with his true feelings about his fellow rookie teammate.
“Everything’s been cool,” Sanders said. “He’s a cool person. I like how he handles situations, especially just the negative media that’s coming his way. I’m just happy he’s positive, he’s able to handle everything. We’re truly cool.”
Despite a heated competition coming up, Cleveland seems to be sticking together. Forming a tight team chemistry is extremely important to finding lasting success and building the right culture.
Sanders was projected to be a first or second-round pick in the draft. He slipped all the way to the fifth round, where the Browns traded up to select him at pick No. 144. That slide has given him extra motivation to prove himself at the NFL level.

Throughout his college career split between Jackson State and Colorado, Sanders put up elite production. He completed 70.1 percent of his career pass attempts for 14,347 yards, 134 touchdowns, and just 27 interceptions.
On the outside looking in, the talent and potential are there for him to be successful. Sanders will simply need to put it all together.
Everything for him will start with being a great leader and teammate. Then comes the hard work and finally the opportunity.
These comments are a great look for a player who the national media has tried to throw under the bus on multiple occasions.
