PHOENIX — The S’edav Va’aki Museum in Phoenix closed Tuesday for extensive renovations and is expected to reopen in four months.

This is the first time in 20 years that leaders will be implementing a new storytelling technique with the exhibits at the museum, which is located at 4619 E. Washington St.

The museum, formerly known as the Pueblo Grande Museum and Archaeological Park, will be removing the “Following Their Roots” and “What’s in Our Name?” exhibits in order to prepare for new ones coming later this year.

S’edav Va’aki’s main gallery, “The Land and the People,” will also be uninstalled.

Other changes at S’edav Va’aki will include a new exhibition layout, modernized displays, updated artifact information labels and an upgraded the building’s HVAC system.

What other ways can I see S’edav Va’aki Museum while it’s closed?

There are different resources for visitors who still want to learn about the museum while it is undergoing these renovations.

The museum’s website has a virtual programming page that provides free educational content, worksheets and online exhibits to scroll through. It also has a YouTube channel with a variety of videos to watch.

Those looking for something a little more interactive can do a virtual tour of the Interpretive Mound Trail through Google Maps.
