Cueva and Chez Ma Tante are new neighbors, stationed side-by-side in Greenpoint for a little less than a year now. Justin Felizzari’s menswear outfitter and the unassuming European-inspired eatery have formed a fast friendship, built on Brooklyn days spent shopping at Cueva, followed by nights chowing down on Executive Chef Oscar Paz’s finest feasts at the Aidan O’Neal and Jake Leiber-founded imprint.
With community at the core of the pair’s budding brotherhood, Cueva and Chez Ma Tante are making it official with a debut clothing collaboration, enlisting Italian atelier Barena Venezia to take it to the next level.
A masterful merging of friendship, food, and fashion, the collab consists of four bespoke items, each of which lands in three colorways. Paying homage to Barena’s first-ever collection in 1993, which was an apron collection, the trio brings functionality to the kitchen by way of three full looks of overshirts and pant sets, which each come accompanied with a matching tee and apron.
While the collection was crafted fully in Italy, Barena Venezia’s CCO, Davide Sambin Zara, believes it aligns best with New York City.
“New York is deeply connected with Venice,” explained Sambin Zara in a press statement. “Actually, Venice was the New York of the planet if we go a few centuries back. Both cities are set on water and are/were the epicenter of international commerce.”
