The Reds come into the series on a hot streak, having swept the Cleveland Guardians over the weekend to push their win streak to four games and pull back to .500 on the season. They’ll rely on 27-year-old staff ace Lodolo to keep the momentum going, though his form hasn’t been fantastic as of late. In his last outing, he lasted just 5.1 innings, allowing seven hits and three earned runs as he took the loss to the Chicago White Sox.
For the Pirates, they’re happy to get back to the friendly confines of PNC Park, where they are a reasonable 9-13 on the season. They just finished up a six-game road trip, where they lost five of six, including a weekend sweep at the hands of the Philadelphia Phillies. On the hill will be Mitch Keller, who was a hard-luck loser his last time out, completing seven sparkling innings, allowing just five hits and two earned runs, but his offense couldn’t get going as they lost 2-1.
The Reds and Pirates played a series in Cincinnati in early April, with the Reds winning all three games.
