Donald Trump extended his wish that Joe Biden has “a fast and successful recovery” after the announcement that his predecessor has been diagnosed with an aggressive form of prostate cancer.

Trump wrote on Truth Social, “Melania and I are saddened to hear about Joe Biden’s recent medical diagnosis. We extend our warmest and best wishes to Jill and the family, and we wish Joe a fast and successful recovery.”

Trump’s tone was in longtime political tradition of setting aside political differences in the midst of serious health matters. After the assassination attempt on Trump’s life last July, Biden’s campaign paused advertising and events and then then-president, still running for reelection, called his rival.

Biden’s office released a statement earlier today saying, “Last week, President Joe Biden was seen for a new finding of a prostate nodule after experiencing increasing urinary symptoms. On Friday, he was diagnosed with prostate cancer, characterized by a Gleason score of 9 (Grade Group 5) with metastasis to the bone. While this represents a more aggressive form of the disease, the cancer appears to be hormone-sensitive which allows for effective management.”

Since taking office, Trump has continued to blast Biden, often blaming him for everything from continued inflation to crime to the war in Ukraine. Trump has claimed that the pardons that Biden signed are not valid, alleging that they were signed by autopen. But legal experts say that Trump can’t rollback Biden’s pardons, and there is not constitutional requirement that they be signed by hand.

Biden recently appeared on The View and said of Trump’s initial months in office, “He’s had the worst 100 days any president’s ever had.”
