(WTRF) – Wrestling legend Jim Ross, perhaps best known for his tenure as a play-by-play commentator with WWE, has been diagnosed with cancer, he revealed Thursday on social media.
“Diagnosed this week with colon cancer,” Ross simply wrote in the post. “Surgery being scheduled in the next week or two. I appreciate your concern and support.”
Ross, 73, did not provide any additional details as of Friday morning, but he has retweeted messages of support from well-wishers and friends. He also shared a post from All Elite Wrestling, where he currently announces.
“All Elite Wrestling joins fans around the world in sending love and support to Jim Ross as he battles colon cancer,” reads AEW’s message. “J.R. is a valued member of the AEW family, and we stand beside him during his journey toward recovery.”
Ross has battled cancer before, too. He was diagnosed with skin cancer in 2021 — ultimately confirming he was “cancer-free” by the end of the year — and later underwent another cancer surgery on his hip in 2024.
Currently a commentator for AEW, Ross has been with the company since 2019. Before joining AEW, Ross was known for his commentary work with WWE. He’s also a member of the WWE Hall of Fame.
