A woman was found screaming for help and bleeding from her head from an alleged, unprovoked attack in Culver City, police confirmed Thursday.

It happened on Tuesday evening, the Culver City Police Department said, when a 911 caller reported finding a woman from her cries for help near the 4100 block of Madison Avenue.

Officers responded to the call around 6:44 p.m. and arrived to find the “visibly injured” victim sitting on the ground, holding the back of her bleeding head, police detailed.

The on-scene investigation unveiled that while the victim was on a walk in the neighborhood that evening, she realized that a stranger had been following her. Police did not immediately identify the victim and only described the suspect as a man in his 30s.

According to the report, the victim said that this unknown man allegedly attacked her from behind, grabbing her by the head and pulling her to the ground before “repeatedly” punching her in the head.

Paramedics ultimately responded to the scene and transported the victim to a hospital. Officials said she was facing non-life-threatening injuries.

“Officers immediately canvassed the area and, within a short time, located a suspect matching the description near the 4100 block of La Salle Avenue,” the department stated in a release.

Police purportedly detained the suspect without incident, positively identified him and arrested him for assault likely to produce great bodily injury.

“The Culver City Police Department commends the swift actions of our responding officers and the bravery of our community members who intervened in the attack by immediately calling for help,” added the department’s release.
