Glen Rogers, known as the “Casanova Killer,” is set to be executed by lethal injection at Florida State Prison on Thursday.

Newsweek reached out to Florida Governor Ron DeSantis via email for comment.

The Context

Rogers, 62, was found guilty of stabbing and killing Tina Marie Cribbs at a Tampa motel in November 1995.

The night of the murder, Rogers met Cribbs at the Showtown USA bar and restaurant in Gibsonton, Florida, after he had rented a room at Motel 8 in Tampa. He then offered to drive the mother of two to a nearby carnival grounds.

When she left the bar, she put her beer on the counter and said she would be right back. She was found two days later dead in a bathtub in Rogers’ motel room with two stab wounds. Rogers had asked the staff not to clean the room and had left a “do not disturb” sign on the door.

What To Know

Rogers gained the nickname “Casanova Killer” due to his charming personality. Bar patrons recall him offering to buy drinks for the women there, including Cribbs.

He was also nicknamed the “Cross Country Killer” as he has been linked to five murders across the country. He was also sentenced to death in California following his Florida sentence for the murder of Sandra Gallagher, whom he strangled and burned to death just weeks before he targeted Gibbs.

He is linked to the deaths of Mark Peters from Ohio, Linda Price from Mississippi, and Andy Lou Jiles Sutton from Louisiana.

Cribbs, Price, Gallagher and Sutton were all mothers in their mid-thirties with similar red/strawberry blond hair.

Rodgers asked for another court hearing this year to prove he was repeatedly sexually assaulted as a child, in the hopes that a jury would grant him a life sentence instead of a death sentence. However, his request for a new hearing was denied.

His legal team has also said Rogers suffers from porphyria, a condition that could make the injection extremely painful and therefore inhumane. This filing was also denied as the other forms of execution, firing squad and lethal gas, are not available in Florida.

Rogers Claims Murder of Nicole Brown Simpson

Rogers has also claimed responsibility for the murder of Nicole Brown Simpson, O.J. Simpson’s wife. There is no evidence tying Rogers to the scene of her murder, but O.J. Simpson’s defense pointed to him as a potential other suspect in the case.

Rogers has said he is responsible for 70 deaths. There is no evidence for this claim.

Scheduled Executions in Florida

Rogers’ execution warrant is the fifth signed this year by DeSantis.

Four people have already been executed in Florida this year. The only other prisoner scheduled for execution in Florida in 2025 is Anthony F. Wainwright.

Wainwright was found guilty of the kidnap, rape and murder of 23-year-old Carmen Gayheart in Florida in 1994.

DeSantis only signed one execution warrant in 2024 but six in 2023.

What People Are Saying

Glen Rogers’ brother, Claude Rogers, told the Tampa Bay Times: “I said my goodbyes to him. He’s my brother, and I love him. I asked God to guide him on this next journey.”

Executive Director Michael Sheedy of the Florida Conference of Catholic Bishops, in a letter to Governor Ron DeSantis: “We urge you to spare Glen Roger’s life. We appeal to you that it is possible both to achieve the purposes of punishment and to exercise mercy. We can entrust the final judgment of every individual to God. We pray for you, too, Governor, as you consider this request.”

What Happens Next

Rogers is set to be executed at 6 p.m. ET on May 15.
