A shooting south of Lake Los Angeles killed a man and wounded a woman on Tuesday.
The woman reported the shooting when she walked into a Los Angeles County Fire Department station just before 2 a.m., the L.A. County Sheriff’s Department said in a news release.
She had sustained “apparent gunshot wounds” and told firefighters that she’d left behind another shooting victim at 150th Street East and East Avenue R.
Investigators did not say which specific fire station she went to, but the closest is Station 114, which is 4.5 miles away. No information was available as to whether she walked that distance or made the much faster drive.
What is known is that once the woman arrived at the station, firefighters alerted deputies, who found a man down in a dirt lot near that intersection. He was “unresponsive with an apparent gunshot wound” and declared dead at the scene. His identity has not been released.
The woman, meanwhile, was hospitalized with non-life-threatening wounds. She identified the attacker as a man who fled right after the shooting.
No description of the alleged shooter has been made public.
