Justin Thomas Unveils ‘Scar Tissue’ Impact over Years on PGA Tour

Finding success on the PGA Tour is not as easy as some of these players make it seem. Ebs and flows happen for players, but sometimes the bad lasts a lot longer.

Ahead of the PGA Championship, two-time champion Justin Thomas discussed his feelings about where his game is now after that tough stretch in 2023.

“When you’re 23, 24 years old, it’s like you don’t have anything else to think about or worry about. You don’t have any scar tissue,” Thomas said. “You don’t have any experience. Earlier in your career, it’s different — it’s a similar mindset in that we want to win and have a lot of fire and work hard, but it’s different.”

“I feel great about my game. I would like to think and hope I’m a more mature person and golfer. I don’t think it’s fair to play the comparison game. I hope but firmly believe that some of my best is still ahead of me, and I know that I have that in there. I have to go find it and prove it.”

Despite feeling like a long time, Thomas’ rough patch was only a year.

The 32-year-old mentioned that he felt he was on the right track by the end of that season.

“I think it’s good for you in the long term,” he explained. “It doesn’t seem like it when it’s happening, and I would have much rather not had a poor year than have one, but I learned a lot from it. You have to go through it and maybe make wrong decisions or chase things that you don’t need to.”

Fans expect Thomas to be in contention because that is what he has done most of his career.

Thomas recently ended his drought and won the RBC Heritage to record his 16th PGA Tour victory. Last week at the Truist Championship, he tied with Shane Lowry for second behind Sepp Straka.

In this year alone, the former Alabama Crimson Tide golfer has three runner-up finishes, six Top 10s, and has not missed a cut. He is someone to watch this week at Quail Hollow because he is confident in his game.

Could this week see him win his third Wanamaker Trophy and second victory of 2025?
