Jenna Ortega is paying her respects to iconic moments in TV history with her latest look, which has been ripped straight from Carrie Bradshaw’s closet.
Throughout the six seasons of the original Sex and the City series, plus the two films and the spin-off And Just Like That…, there have been several memorable looks: There’s the pink tulle mini from the title sequence, Bradshaw’s not-wedding dress by Vivienne Westwood, and the belt Bradshaw wore over bare skin. But this dress is probably one of the first things every fashion girl wants in her closet. Of course we’re talking about the newspaper dress from the Dior fall/winter 2000/2001 collection by John Galliano. (The dress first appears in season 3, episode 17, if you’re planning a rewatch.)
Several stars have worn similar dresses over the years, but Ortega chose the original for the the May 13 premiere of her new film, Hurry Up Tomorrow. Her full look is clearly an homage to the styling from the series: minimalist gold jewelry matches the gold hardware on the straps of the dress, which Ortega paired with matching strappy gold heels.
Ortega proved at this year’s Met Gala that she knows what a red carpet look is all about. Her tailored Balmain dress by creative director Olivier Rousteing was one of the most beautiful fashion moments at the prestigious event.
The Wednesday actor’s latest red carpet look is not the first revival of the legendary Dior dress. Sarah Jessica Parker herself brought it out of Carrie Bradshaw’s closet for Sex and the City 2, and was thus ahead of the 2000s fashion revival way back in 2010. In the film, the dress was styled with more striking accessories than the original look. SJP ditched the iconic Carrie nameplate necklace, preferring a silver statement pendant and rhinestone peep-toe heels by Christian Louboutin.
After this beautiful fashionable homage, we are already looking forward to Jenna Ortega’s next red carpet look.
