The St. Louis Cardinals enter Tuesday on a Major League-best nine-game winning streak, and Nolan Arenado is telling people that St. Louis has a different vibe than prior seasons.
The Cardinals entered the season looking to reset for the future, but the team has gotten hot and suddenly has its eyes set on the National League Central title.
The Cardinals have had a top-10 offense in baseball, based on WAR, and after a middling start in April, the team is on a roll of late. The Cardinals struggled to win on the road in April, only winning four of their 16 road games during the month. Entering Tuesday, the Cardinals have won four road games in a row and have won four of their five road games in May.
“We’re excited to come to the ballpark,” Arenado said in an interview with Katie Woo of The Athletic. “First time in a couple of years where it feels like we’re coming to the ballpark ready to win a ballgame instead of coming to the ballpark hoping for something good to happen. It’s a different vibe, for sure.”
The Cardinals have vaulted themselves right back into the thick of the NL Central race and have shown no signs of slowing down. The Cardinals’ bullpen was questionable and still ranks 18th entering Tuesday, but the Cardinals’ potent offense has overcome a struggling bullpen that has seen a turn recently, implying better days to come.
If the Cardinals are in the hunt at the trade deadline, expect them to be buyers and not sellers looking for the extra push to get the storied franchise back to the cool nights of October.
