Robert Downey Jr. shared a new photo from the set of Avengers: Doomsday and gave a nod to Hawkeye‘s Jeremy Renner.

Downey will return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Doctor Doom and made a post on social media as he films the new movie.

“Reading Renner’s book and feeling stronger already…,” Downey posted on Instagram as he flexed his bicep and read Renner’s book My Next Breath.

The actor added, “What a journey to wisdom … very instructive… a must read!”

Downey’s post had him sitting in front of his trailer with a poster of the comic book version of Doctor Doom that read, “Do not Knock. Trust yourself.”

Renner replied to the post, adding, “Long way from the ICU…. At least we know how this story ends my brother. Love you.”

In his memoir, My Next Breath, Renner shares how he overcame the odds to recover from a near-fatal accident in January 2023.

Renner is part of the Avengers, and as of now, it’s not known if he will reprise his role in the MCU. The actor recently opened up about the “insult offer” he received for Hawkeye Season 2, which he turned down.

“They asked me to do Season 2, and they offered me half the money. I’m like, ‘Well, it’s going to take me twice the amount of work for half the amount of money, and eight months of my time, essentially, to do it for half the amount,’” Renner said on High Performance.

Renner suggested that his salary was slashed in half due to his near-fatal accident in 2023.

“I’m like, ‘I’m sorry. Why did you think I’m only half the Jeremy because I got ran over? Maybe that’s why you want to pay me half of what I made on the first season?’” he continued. “This is not Marvel. This isn’t not really Disney, it’s just the penny pinchers — the accountants.”

The actor said he didn’t ask for more money and only wanted his salary from the first season to be matched. A Disney insider disputed Renner’s claims but failed to get into specifics.

Avengers: Doomsday is set to hit theaters on May 1, 2026.
