Summary

  • Hiroki Muraoka is a professional skateboarder who launched his first solo exhibition at Taipei’s Little Hut
  • The show will go on view from May 17 through June 1
  • Bright Moments focuses on the happiness found in everyday life

Hiroki Muraoka is an emerging contemporary painter based in Tokyo, Japan who paints vivid, flat-based figurative scenes that capture his experiences as a professional skateboarder. Having been repped by big brands such as adidas and Traffic for his skateboarding talents, Muraoka has spent most of his daily life on four tiny polyurethane wheels, but would reserve his down time working on sketches, drawings and paintings.

Taiwan’s Little Hut has recognized Muraoka’s creative skills beyond the action sport and is gearing up to launch a solo exhibition called Bright Moments that features a body of work that channels “the warmth and brightness that surround us, if only we pause to notice,” the gallery described.

The series merges his passion for art and skate culture. The pieces highlight various characters and whimsical scenes such as skater getting a boost from a school bus and a relaxing bathhouse scene. “I wanted to capture happy moments that happened around me, or joyful moments I imagined. I hope everyone who views this exhibition will also be able to feel a bit of that happiness,” Hiroki shared in a press statement.

Bright Moments will go on view at The Little Hut starting May 17 through June 1.
