A father and daughter’s wedding dance inspired by an iconic ’90s movie scene has captivated the internet.
Georgia Reid (@georgiaoryan), 28, who lives in the Adelaide Hills, Australia, recreated the legendary twist between John Travolta and Uma Thurman from Quentin Tarantino’s Pulp Fiction with her dad, David O’Ryan, 58, on her big day. The scene—set to Chuck Berry’s “You Never Can Tell”—is often hailed as one of the most memorable moments in the cult classic. Their wedding dance has since garnered 270,800 likes and 3.5 million views on TikTok.
“Dad and I are quite unserious people and he brought me up watching Quentin Tarantino films with Pulp Fiction being one of both of our favorite movies of all time,” Georgia told Newsweek.
In the video, Georgia and David mimic the iconic moves from the film’s twist contest scene. According to No Film School, the choreography is so special since the audience feel like they are in the room witnessing the dance themselves.
The father and daughter channeled this closeness into their own rendition.
“We were stoked because it didn’t need to be perfect, we just had so much fun and it’s a memory we will cherish forever,” Reid said.
“Our guests loved it and it brought so much joy, especially for my nan who flew out from England for our wedding as well as a lot of other international guests.”
Georgia married Jaydan Reid, 30, on January 18 at Mandalay House and Garden in South Australia.
The entire day reflected the couple’s fun-loving spirit. Guests were treated to fireball shots during the ceremony, a pre-reception cocktail hour complete with an ice cream truck, and a live musical performance by Georgia herself—an original song dedicated to her new husband.
Despite living 45 minutes apart, Georgia and David managed to pull the dance together with minimal joint practice.
“The rehearsal process was pretty pathetic! We had seen the movie so much that it was quite easy to pick up and we practiced at home alone to the movie (because we live 45 minutes from each other) and I sent dad I video of me doing it so he could ensure we were doing the right parts as the movie cuts the actual song a bit differently so we needed to fill the gaps. We only practiced together twice before the actual wedding which I think made it even more fun!” Georgia said.
The TikTok community has been delighted by the duo’s performance.
“Brilliant, absolute class… So much better than the usual cringe novelty dances you see these days at weddings,” one user wrote.
“I really enjoyed this, a great dad and daughter dance,” another added.
“Did anyone else stay til the end even though the music cut off? This was absolute class, what a wonderful memory for you both,” said a third.
“Pulp Fiction, great movie. Beautiful bride,” another user chimed in.
