Summary

  • Cloud House in Ho Chi Minh City offers co-living with a distinct design
  • It features loft suites, communal spaces, and cloud-shaped openings for ventilation
  • The design maximizes space and integrates natural elements for better living

Located within a dense urban area in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, Cloud House is a boutique co-living project designed by ROOM+ Design & Build. The first thing that catches one’s eye about this establishment is its distinct design. The building’s surroundings include townhouses of varying heights and scales. Its distinct appearance serves as a creative and functional response to the increasing cost of urban housing.

To improve the building’s environmental performance, the design incorporates various circular openings and cloud-like shapes across its façades and roof– echoing its name. These elements support natural ventilation throughout the structure, allowing ample daylight within the living spaces.

The design is based on three primary strategies, which include loft-style private suites, multifunctional communal spaces and the incorporation of natural elements into its building. Cloud House includes six loft-style suites and two standard studios. In each loft unit, a raised platform is positioned above the entry and bathroom areas. This design optimizes the 3.5-meter floor-to-ceiling height to increase usable space. A neutral material and color palette are utilized throughout. Smartly designed and multifunctional furniture, such as seating benches, wardrobes and storage cabinets, are harmoniously integrated with structural components.

Additionally, a common sitting area at the mezzanine level and the rooftop terrace are shared amenities. These communal spaces foster a sense of community among the residents. The ground floor and a central courtyard serve as designated parking for bicycles and motorbikes. Positioned at the building’s core is a spiral staircase, which functions as the main circulation path while also facilitating interaction among the building’s residents.
